The Chow Kit is an elegant vintage luxury accommodation located in the very heart of Kuala Lumpur, set in an area teeming with vivid character and history. Opening doors to guests in late 2019, this hotel marks Malaysian airline tycoon, Tony Fernandes’ maiden foray into the luxury hospitality industry. A part of the Ormond Group of hotels, The Chow Kit intertwines modernity with the sweet nostalgia of the past, distinctive of its quaint surrounding neighbourhood. This reimagined luxury boutique concept prioritizes great service, offered at an affordable price, enjoyed in a thoughtfully-designed space.

Ormond Group partnered with Acacia Fabrics to fulfil their furnishing needs. Caroline King, The Chow Kit’s General Manager shared that hotel was designed in way which made guests feel like they were being welcomed home. Indeed, the cosy lighting coupled with the traditional rattan furniture and Persian carpets truly embody the style this hotel was aiming for. Throughout the hotel, hints of Acacia Fabrics’ homegrown label of textile luxury can be spotted. From the tassel fringed curtains, to the plush velveteen settees in the suites, to the intricate brocade seats in the lobby, The Chow Kit’s upholstery choices are tastefully reminiscent of the city’s traditional heritage.
The fabrics in The Chow Kit adhere to a sepia colour palette with warm maroon and mustard hues, creating an ambient and relaxing respite. Still, the textiles serve more than just aesthetic purposes. According to King, the fabrics are used to absorb noise and soften hard surfaces; thus, enveloping guests in a quiet cocoon in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city.
Mentioned in the New York Times’ ‘52 Places To Go in 2020’ and the It List’s ‘Best New Hotels in the World’, the chic interior design that The Chow Kit offers is certainly not one to miss on your next staycation.
